FanMilk West Africa earns historic B Corp Certification

This certification reflects its commitment to Danone’s dual project of balancing economic success and social progress.

WEST AFRICA – FanMilk, a dairy manufacturer, has earned B Corp (Benefit Corporations) Certification, becoming the first and largest consumer goods company in West Africa to achieve this global recognition.

With an overall B Impact Score of 83.8, well above the median score of 50.9 for businesses worldwide, this move underscores the company’s 60-year legacy of delivering refreshing dairy and juice products while creating positive impact in Ghana, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, and Benin.

Guided by Danone’s dual impact strategy, FanMilk balances economic growth with meaningful social impact. The company drives local economies by creating direct and indirect jobs across its value chain, from production to distribution.

Through the three core pillars of the Danone Impact Journey (DIJ)—Health, Nature, and People—FanMilk has launched impactful initiatives across each of its markets to improve livelihoods and promote healthier communities.

FanMilk is committed to sustainability by optimizing its supply chain to reduce its carbon footprint, partnering with local farmers to promote sustainable agriculture, and collaborating with several partners to implement recycling programs and reduce plastic waste.

By joining the global B Corp community, FanMilk reinforces its commitment to sustainable profit, innovative solutions, and positive impact for people and the planet.

The B Corp legal framework enables companies to safeguard their mission and ensures continued stakeholder governance, even after capital raises and leadership changes. The legal framework also provides more flexibility when evaluating potential sale and liquidity options.

B Corp Certification is awarded to businesses that meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency covering everything from employee well-being and charitable giving to sustainable supply chain practices.

In order to achieve certification, a company must: Demonstrate high social and environmental performance by achieving a B Impact Assessment score of 80 or above and passing our risk review. Multinational corporations must also meet baseline requirement standards.

It should also make a legal commitment by changing their corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders, and achieve benefit corporation status if available in their jurisdiction.

Additionally, the company should exhibit transparency by allowing information about their performance measured against B Lab’s standards to be publicly available on their B Corp profile on B Lab’s website.
