dfcu Foundation, ForAfrika sign MoU to advance dairy in Southwest Uganda

UGANDA – dfcu Foundation and ForAfrika have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing the Southwest Uganda Dairy Social Enterprise Hub Programme, designed to unlock the potential of Uganda’s dairy industry.

The partnership between dfcu Foundation and ForAfrika is designed to address the challenges facing Uganda’s dairy sector in a holistic and transformative way.

By pooling expertise and resources, the two organizations will work to strengthen dairy cooperative institutions, enabling them to operate as sustainable Social Enterprise Hubs that can deliver long-term value to farmers and communities.

A key focus will be on improving access to tailored financial solutions, ensuring that farmers and cooperatives have the capital they need to expand operations, invest in productivity, and withstand market fluctuations.

Alongside financial empowerment, the programme will build technical, business, and governance capacity across the value chain, equipping stakeholders with the skills and systems required to thrive in a competitive environment.

Recognizing the importance of technology, the partnership will promote digital solutions to enhance efficiency, traceability, and decision-making, thereby strengthening credibility and opening doors to new markets.

Finally, the initiative will facilitate structured market linkages with commercial dairy processors, creating reliable pathways for farmers to access buyers, improve incomes, and integrate more fully into the formal economy.

Agriculture remains the backbone of Uganda’s economy, and the dairy sector in particular holds immense promise for driving inclusive growth, improving household incomes, and strengthening rural livelihoods.

Yet, many emerging dairy farmers and cooperatives continue to face barriers ranging from limited access to finance and markets, to gaps in technical and organizational capacity.

Through these interventions, the programme is expected to positively impact approximately 4,000 emerging commercial dairy farmers in Southwest Uganda.

Beyond the numbers, the real impact lies in transformation—turning cooperatives into resilient enterprises, farmers into confident agripreneurs, and rural communities into thriving economic ecosystems.

By embedding sustainability, innovation, and inclusivity at the heart of the programme, dfcu Foundation and ForAfrika are not only strengthening Uganda’s dairy sector but also laying the foundation for long-term prosperity.

This partnership signals a new chapter for Uganda’s dairy industry—one where collaboration, capacity-building, and financial empowerment converge to create lasting change.
