Cargill India unveils US$36M dairy feed manufacturing plant

The facility will deliver science-based nutrition solutions to dairy farmers, enhancing productivity and profitability.

INDIA – Cargill India has unveiled its second dairy feed manufacturing plant in Punjab, reinforcing its role in India’s expanding animal nutrition sector.

The new facility will be located near Wazirabad and involve a US$36 million (₹300 crore) investment, aimed at bolstering feed capacity and supporting dairy farmers across multiple regions.

The plant is expected to have an annual production capacity of around 4 lakh tonnes, significantly expanding Cargill’s footprint in the dairy feed market. This move complements their existing feed plant in Bhatinda, which is currently operating at full capacity.

According to Ravinder Balain, Country President of Cargill India, the expansion reflects the company’s long-term commitment to India’s dairy sector, which continues to register robust growth due to rising incomes, increased consumption and strong milk production figures.

India remains the world’s largest milk producer, with output nearing 239 million metric tonnes in 2023–24, and its animal nutrition market is projected to expand further in the coming years.

Cargill says the new plant will strengthen feed supply reliability, reduce regional logistical bottlenecks and help dairy producers improve cattle nutrition and milk productivity.

The facility is also expected to create around 1,000 direct and indirect jobs in manufacturing, logistics and allied services.

In addition, Cargill is working with dairy producers to introduce digital farm management tools and science-based nutritional solutions to enhance overall herd health. These initiatives are part of broader efforts to drive productivity growth and resilience in India’s dairy value chain.

The launch of the second dairy feed plant highlights the growing importance of high-quality feed in India’s dairy economy.

As dairy output expands, access to nutritionally balanced, locally manufactured feed becomes a critical determinant of profitability and sustainable growth for farmers.

Cargill expands micronutrition capacity in Austria to meet rising global demand

In 2025, the company completed a significant expansion of its Engerwitzdorf facility in Austria, increasing production capacity by 50% to meet growing global demand for advanced micronutrition solutions.

The investment underscores the company’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and customer success in the rapidly evolving animal nutrition sector.

The upgraded facility will now be capable of producing up to 30,000 metric tons per year, enough to fortify up to 200 million metric tons of feed, marking a significant step forward for Cargill’s Micronutrition & Health Solutions business.
