dsm-firmenich strengthens dairy sustainability efforts through new partnerships

These initiatives reinforce dsm-firmenich’s commitment to making measurable sustainability a practical reality across global agriculture.

SWITZERLAND – dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health (ANH) has joined the Milk Sustainability Center (MSC) as a strategic partner, marking a major step in its mission to advance sustainable farming practices.

The collaboration will integrate dsm-firmenich’s Sustell™, a leading lifecycle assessment (LCA) solution, into the MSC platform, providing dairy farmers with precise, data-driven insights to improve environmental performance.

As a strategic partner, dsm-firmenich joins founding members John Deere and DeLaval in supporting MSC’s goal of helping dairy producers track, analyse, and improve their sustainability efforts.

The company will contribute its expertise in precision livestock farming and digital technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), to enable farmers to make real-time, informed decisions on farm management.

Dr. David Nickell, Vice President of Sustainability and Business Solutions at dsm-firmenich ANH, emphasised the importance of the partnership.

The partnership between the Milk Sustainability Center and dsm-firmenich makes environmental impact assessment scalable and easier to implement. This will enable value chain partners to track sustainability performance regularly and to understand where and how to make profitable improvements with credible and transparent data and insights,” he said.

Enhancing digital tools for farmers

The integration of Sustell™ into MSC will allow seamless, automated use of real-time, accurate primary farm data, transforming complex datasets into actionable insights that drive measurable sustainability gains.

The move builds on dsm-firmenich’s digital innovation journey, which began in 2022 with the launch of AI-enabled farm management apps under its FarmTell™ brand.

Most recently, the company rolled out LORE Milk, its latest AI-powered module, in Brazil in August 2025, with a European launch expected soon.

With operations spanning 59 sites worldwide and a portfolio of more than 100 nutritional products and precision services, dsm-firmenich ANH positions itself as an essential solution provider for the global livestock sector.

Partnership with FarmTrace to streamline data integration

In a related development, dsm-firmenich ANH has also partnered with FarmTrace, a global farm connection and analytics platform, to simplify sustainability measurement at the farm level.

The collaboration will integrate Sustell™ with FarmTrace’s infrastructure, automating the collection and processing of data from connected farm systems.

This eliminates the need for manual inputs and time-consuming questionnaires, making sustainability assessments more efficient.

Farmers are being asked to do more than ever, and sustainability shouldn’t add complexity,” said Dr. Nickell.

Through our partnership with FarmTrace, we are enabling end-to-end integration of accurate, real-time farm data into Sustell™, so we can focus on what we do best: translating data into actionable insights that drive environmental improvement.

FarmTrace CEO Katherine Zambaldi added, “Sustainable food systems need scalable solutions. By linking our data infrastructure with Sustell™, we’re helping unlock value from existing farm technology and enabling sustainability insights without adding administrative burdens.

By streamlining data flows, the FarmTrace partnership aims to save farmers time, enhance consistency in sustainability reporting, and facilitate the scaling of environmental monitoring across large numbers of farms.
