400 employees will transition under Bonafarm’s leadership.

ROMANIA – FrieslandCampina N.V., a dairy manufacturer, has reached an agreement to sell its operations in Romania to Bonafarm Group, including the leading local brand Napolact and the production facilities in Cluj-Napoca and Târgu Mureș.
The decision follows a strategic review of FrieslandCampina’s activities in Romania and aligns with the strategy of the Business Group Europe to focus on core markets, high value-added growth segments, synergies across the company and markets where the milk from FrieslandCampina member dairy farmers can be optimally valorised.
Although the Romanian operational company holds a leading position in the local dairy market, its activities offer limited synergy with the Europe portfolio and do not contribute to the valorisation of FrieslandCampina member milk. With Bonafarm Group as the new owner, the Romanian business is in capable hands.
Dustin Woodward, President of FrieslandCampina Europe, said: “FrieslandCampina Romania has a rich history and a strong position in the local market, with Napolact being one of the most appreciated brands in Romania. The company is well managed by an experienced leadership team and supported by an organisation with exceptional talent.
“As such, the decision to divest the operations was not taken lightly. This step enables us to better align the European portfolio with our strategy to maximise the value of FrieslandCampina member milk, allowing us to focus our resources more effectively. At the same time, the intended transaction offers new growth opportunities for the Romanian business and the Napolact brand under the leadership of a partner with a stronger regional presence.”
The agreement has in scope FrieslandCampina’s stake in the Romanian entity which owns the Iconic Brand Napolact, operates two production sites in Cluj-Napoca and Târgu Mureș and employs approximately 400 people.
The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals, including clearance from the Romanian Competition Authorities and is expected to be completed by the end of December 2025. As part of this process, FrieslandCampina will work closely with Bonafarm Group to ensure a smooth transition for all stakeholders.
Attila Csányi, CEO of Bonafarm Group, said that FrieslandCampina Romania had a long-standing history and expressed confidence in its high production quality, professional management, and skilled workforce.
He noted that since dairy processing was a strategic area for Bonafarm Group, they saw strong potential to grow the company and the Napolact brand together.
He added that, pending regulatory approvals, Bonafarm intended to invest in expanding the facilities’ capacity, maintain strong partnerships with commercial and supplier partners, and support the development of Romania’s dairy industry.
