FrieslandCampina inaugurates new dairy plant in Malaysia

NETHERLANDS – FrieslandCampina subsidiary, Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad (DLMI) has inaugurated a dairy plant in Bandar Enstek, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia.

The new facility, known as DLMI@Enstek, is equipped with the latest technology enabling the company to double its output to meet the increasing demand for nutritious dairy products in the region.

The state-of-the-art plant is designed to achieve a 30% reduction in energy and water consumption by 2030, based on its 2022 baseline.

According to Ramjeet Kaur Virik, Managing Director of DLMI, the company’s goal is in line with DLMI’s broader sustainability roadmap, which aims to enhance operational efficiency while minimizing environmental impact.

During the opening ceremony, Ramjeet expressed her satisfaction with the new facility highlighting that the opening affirmed DLMI’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices while at the same time improving operational capabilities.

“After years of preparations, we are now operational. To all the partners, government agencies, and colleagues who cooperated in making this fantastic project a reality, I extend my sincere thanks,” she stated.

In addition, Jan Derck van Karnebeek, CEO of Royal FrieslandCampina N.V., highlighted the importance of the new plant in addressing local dairy needs noting that the company believes in providing to the consumers access to safe and nutritious food.

“We are immensely proud of this new production site, which will enable us to produce more high-quality and nutritious dairy products for consumers in Malaysia and the region, thus contributing to food security,” he said.

Meanwhile, FrieslandCampina has had a long-standing commitment to sustainability, evident in its strategic initiatives and partnerships since its formation in 2009.

The company has showcased its dedication to measurable sustainability results, including validated tools to monitor progress in energy and water efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions.

As part of its broader commitment, FrieslandCampina has established production facilities in other parts of the world running on sustainable energy sources, such as rice husks and pruning waste.

Notably, FrieslandCampina’s comprehensive sustainability strategy, Route2020, and subsequent programs like Foqus planet and Nourishing a better planet, have consistently pushed the boundaries of sustainable dairy farming and production.

The company has also implemented various initiatives, from encouraging solar panel installations on dairy farms to introducing sustainability-based performance premiums for member dairy farmers.
