Beyti launches first UHT milk in PET bottles

Beyti aims to align with changing consumer demands while boosting competitiveness at home and in export markets.

EGYPT – Beyti Food Industries, a leading dairy and juice producer and a subsidiary of the Almarai Group, has introduced Egypt’s first UHT milk packaged in PET bottles, marking a pivotal shift in the country’s dairy sector.

The launch positions Beyti as a technology-driven frontrunner in packaging innovation and reinforces its ambition to meet global standards in efficiency, sustainability, and consumer convenience.

The groundbreaking PET line was unveiled during a tour of strategic industrial projects by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel Al-Wazir.

For decades, UHT milk in Egypt has largely been packaged in cartons, but PET offers a recyclable, lighter, and more durable alternative with stronger shelf presence and improved logistics performance.

With this investment, Beyti aims to align with changing consumer demands while boosting competitiveness at home and in export markets.

The PET initiative is part of Beyti’s broader EGP 1 billion expansion at its expansive 120-feddan Nubaria complex, one of the largest integrated food manufacturing hubs in the region.

Five new production lines have been commissioned, bringing the total to 32, including upgrades across cheese, juices, yogurt, and drinkable yogurt.

The facility also features Egypt’s first locally produced cheese-processing machine, underscoring Beyti’s support for local engineering and technical talent.

Beyti’s Nubaria plant currently produces 650,000 tonnes annually, generates more than 6,000 direct and indirect jobs, and exports 130 SKUs to 45 markets.

The site’s 7.6 MW solar installation further strengthens the company’s sustainability profile by reducing emissions and lowering energy dependence.

Beyti’s shift to PET places Egypt in step with global dairy packaging trends. Almarai has already rolled out PET-based long-life milk formats in the Gulf, while international players such as Lactalis and FrieslandCampina are expanding PET adoption to improve recyclability and consumer convenience.

In East Africa, Brookside Dairy and Pearl Dairy have also piloted PET for select UHT and value-added milk products, citing better shelf visibility and growing demand for lightweight, fully recyclable packaging.

These developments highlight PET’s growing influence as dairy processors seek packaging formats that balance sustainability, cost, and functionality.

During his visit, Al-Wazir noted that Beyti’s expansion aligns with Egypt’s wider industrialisation strategy, supporting local manufacturing, strengthening food security, and attracting fresh investment into the food-processing sector.

With its latest packaging breakthrough and ongoing production upgrades, Beyti is not only reshaping Egypt’s dairy landscape but also positioning itself as a regional leader in sustainable, technology-driven food manufacturing.
