Jaipur Dairy invests US$1.71M in its new sweet facility

This strategic move aims to tap into the growing consumer trend for sweets and signifies a major shift in the agribusiness sector towards value-added products.

INDIA – Jaipur Dairy, a dairy manufacturer, has announced it is investing US$1.71 million (₹15 Crore) in a new sweets plant to diversify its offerings and capitalise on a growing consumer trend.

The facility will be equipped with a semi-automated system and will be operated using a SCADA system, ensuring a high degree of automation and quality control.

The project will be developed under the supervision of the Indian Dairy Machinery Company, a detail that underscores the use of specialized expertise in the construction of the new facility.

The emphasis on advanced technology, like the SCADA system, indicates that the cooperative is focused on scaling production efficiently while maintaining strict quality standards. This strategic approach is crucial for a major player in the Indian dairy economics landscape.

The expansion is also a signal to the international dairy community that cooperatives in emerging markets are exploring new growth opportunities. By investing in products with added value, Jaipur Dairy aims to strengthen its brand and create a diversified portfolio that aligns with evolving consumer preferences.

Recently, the company unveiled 23 new products and signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during a grand event at the Birla Auditorium.

The event saw the presence of Rajasthan’s Animal Husbandry Minister Joraram Kumawat and Jaipur Dairy Chairman Om Prakash Poonia, alongside other dignitaries like Jawahar Singh Bedham and National Commission for Women Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar.

The new products include a variety of flavored shrikhand such as mango, jamun, pineapple, and coconut, moving beyond the traditional single variant previously available.

This diversification aims to cater to evolving consumer tastes and boost market reach.

According to Jaipur Dairy officials, the cooperative also introduced three new schemes focused on women’s empowerment and environmental sustainability.

One initiative involves installing 25-28 MW rooftop solar plants across 3,400 affiliated milk societies, aiming to eliminate electricity costs and promote green energy.

Another scheme, the Bioflexy Plant, will manage organic waste in rural households, producing free cooking gas equivalent to 1.5 cylinders per household, with a Rs 5,000 subsidy offered to participating farmers.

A report by The Statesman highlighted that the MoU signed during the event is with an undisclosed partner, speculated to be a technology or energy firm, to support the implementation of these schemes.

“This is a proud moment for Jaipur Dairy as we take steps to empower our farmers and embrace eco-friendly practices,” said Minister Kumawat during his address.

The chairman, Om Prakash Poonia, added, “Our new products and initiatives reflect our dedication to quality and progress.”
