Lato Milk signs MoU with Marubeni Corporation to expand dairy business

The MoU marks the beginning of collaborations aimed at exploring strategic dairy investments and partnerships.

Uganda – Lato Milk, a dairy manufacturer, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Marubeni Corporation at the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD-9), held in Yokohama, to explore potential investments and partnerships for expanding its dairy businesses in Uganda and Kenya.

The initiative is grounded in a shared commitment to enhancing food security, supporting local farmers, and expanding access to high-quality nutrition throughout the region.

By leveraging Marubeni’s global expertise and resources alongside local knowledge and infrastructure, the partnership aspires to create sustainable growth in the dairy sector—enhancing livelihoods and contributing to long-term resilience in East Africa’s food systems

The Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD-9), held from August 20 to 22, 2025, in Yokohama, Japan, marked a pivotal moment in the evolving partnership between Japan and the African continent.

Under the theme “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa, TICAD-9 emphasized mutual investment, innovation, and inclusive growth. Japan signaled a clear shift toward empowering African nations through technology transfer, infrastructure development, and private sector engagement.

The conference saw the signing of more than 300 memoranda of understanding, covering sectors such as agriculture, industrialization, digital transformation, and youth empowerment. These agreements reflected a shared commitment to long-term, sustainable development rooted in African priorities.

The Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) is a landmark initiative launched by the Government of Japan in 1993 to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development across Africa.

Lato Milk Honoured as Best Dairy Processing Brand

The news comes as the company is crowned Best Dairy Processing Brand at the prestigious Business Excellence Awards.

This recognition stands as a powerful testament to the brand’s unwavering commitment to quality, nutrition, and innovation.
