USA – California Dairies, Inc., the state’s largest dairy farmer-owned cooperative, has officially opened its advanced manufacturing facility, Valley Natural Beverages, in Bakersfield.
The US$300 million plant, designed to produce shelf-stable milk products, integrates modern technology and sustainable practices to meet growing consumer demand.
The new facility employs advanced robotics and energy-efficient systems to streamline production.
It features three processing lines dedicated to extended shelf life and ultra-high temperature dairy beverages, ensuring products remain fresh for longer periods without refrigeration.
California Dairies, representing nearly 300 dairy producers who collectively supply 17 billion pounds of milk annually, aims to strengthen its market position with this investment.
The cooperative, known for brands like Challenge Butter and Danish Creamery, expects the plant to enhance its ability to serve both domestic and international markets, reaching over 50 countries.
Sustainability is a core focus of the facility. By incorporating renewable energy sources and waste conservation measures, the plant aligns with California’s environmental goals.
“This facility sets a new standard for sustainable dairy production,” said Brad Anderson, President and CEO of California Dairies.
“We’re committed to reducing our environmental footprint while delivering high-quality products.”
The emphasis on eco-friendly practices reflects the cooperative’s response to increasing consumer and regulatory expectations for greener operations.
The grand opening drew government officials and community leaders, highlighting the plant’s economic impact.
The facility is projected to create numerous jobs in Bakersfield, boosting the local economy.
“This plant is a game-changer for our community and the dairy industry,” remarked a local official during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Despite challenges facing the dairy industry, such as recent bird flu outbreaks affecting California herds, California Dairies remains optimistic about the facility’s potential.
The cooperative has implemented strict biosecurity measures to protect its supply chain, ensuring the new plant operates smoothly.
With a focus on innovation and resilience, the Bakersfield facility positions California Dairies to meet evolving market demands while maintaining its legacy of quality.
The cooperative’s investment in state-of-the-art infrastructure signals confidence in the future of dairy, promising enhanced product availability and economic growth for the region.
