
GERMANY – Biofach 2025, held from February 11 to 14 in Nuremberg, Germany, presented a dynamic showcase of organic and sustainable food production, strongly focusing on innovation in functional beverages, plant-based proteins, fermentation, and nutraceuticals.
The event saw a diverse range of companies presenting products designed to meet the growing demand for health-conscious and eco-friendly options in the food industry.
One of the standout trends at Biofach 2025 was the increasing popularity of functional beverages.
Very Berry, a family-owned company, reported that its “5-in-1” product line, which includes drinks such as Omm for relaxation and Athletic for recovery, combines pure berry juices with herbal teas.
The company emphasized its use of cold-pressed, additive-free juices and sustainable glass packaging, in line with the rising consumer preference for clean label and health-focused drinks.
Very Berry also revealed plans to introduce organic lemonades in cans by the end of 2025. YAYA Kombucha, known as the first Dutch kombucha brand, presented its core range, including Yuzu and Ginger flavors, as well as a new Mate Kombucha.
The brand, which recently expanded into the German market, highlights its commitment to organic ingredients and low-sugar formulations.
Meanwhile, Sparkteez introduced a non-alcoholic sparkling tea inspired by champagne, made from Darjeeling and white teas, showcasing its organic and FairTrade practices.
Plant-based proteins were another significant theme at the event, with several companies unveiling innovations in this category.
Cosun Protein, based in the Netherlands, introduced its organic Tendra fava bean protein isolate, which can be used in dairy alternatives, sauces, and sports nutrition.
Austrion from Austria presented its plant-based protein offerings, including pea protein concentrates with a cleaner taste profile and its Ayaca protein bar, which is organic, vegan, and free from added sugars.
Austrion’s collaboration with a German triathlete underscores its focus on performance nutrition.
Additionally, New Roots, a company specializing in plant-based dairy alternatives, showcased a new cashew-based soft cheese and protein-rich vegan cheeses made from a new strain of lupin legume.
Agrana also introduced a vegan, organic beverage base powder designed for small children, addressing both nutritional needs and sustainability concerns.
Fermentation was another key focus at Biofach 2025, with several companies promoting products aimed at supporting gut health.
Bouche presented its Juniper Pet Nat, a sparkling fermented drink bridging the gap between kombucha and natural wine, while Bevia highlighted its fermented foods, including kimchi, emphasizing the health benefits of fermentation.
LivQ Fermented Products showcased its Propaferm process, using fermentation to create potent dietary supplements from organic fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds, designed to support gut health and the immune system.
Superfoods also garnered attention, with companies like Akash Agro Industries from India highlighting organic psyllium husk and powder.
Biosan Biotechnology introduced a range of mushroom products, including reishi, lion’s mane, chaga, and cordyceps, while Iswari launched its new Super Greens mix, containing 15 fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, and algae.
The mix is designed to support gut health, immunity, and metabolism.
