Fonterra’s US$75M Studholme txpansion on track for 2026 completion

NEW ZEALAND – Fonterra’s US$75 million expansion of its Studholme factory near Waimate is progressing on schedule, with construction advancing according to plan and remaining within budget.

The company reported that the expansion is a key part of its strategy to increase the production of high-value dairy proteins, aligning with growing global demand for such ingredients.

According to Fonterra, foundational structures, including walls, have been completed, enhancing the site’s capacity to meet market needs.

Studholme site manager Alan Maitland confirmed that construction is proceeding as expected, with the first product line set to be operational by 2026.

“ We are on track and excited about the progress. This expansion will allow us to meet the increasing demand for high-quality dairy ingredients,” he said.

The project is also set to create six new jobs, reinforcing Fonterra’s commitment to regional economic growth.

Waimate District Mayor Craig Rowley and Venture Timaru CEO Nigel Davenport have commended the investment, noting its positive impact on the local economy.

A report by the company highlighted that the expansion strengthens Fonterra’s manufacturing network, positioning the Studholme site as a crucial hub for high-protein dairy production.

Fonterra’s President of Global Markets Ingredients, Richard Allen, emphasized the growing global demand for high-protein dairy products, projected to increase by about 7% annually, reaching nearly NZ$16 billion.

He noted that the enhancements at Studholme will not only benefit existing customers but also attract new business opportunities.

“This investment ensures we remain a leading player in the global dairy industry while providing high-value solutions to our customers,” he stated.

Fonterra remains confident that the expansion will enhance its market position and support long-term growth.

As the company continues its investment in advanced dairy processing, the Studholme site is expected to play a central role in meeting both domestic and international demand for high-protein dairy products.
