Commercial Dairy Ranchers Association of Nigeria visits Kenya for benchmarking

KENYA – The Kenya Dairy Board has welcomed a delegation from the Commercial Dairy Ranchers Association of Nigeria (CODARAN) for a courtesy visit as they begin a benchmarking mission to explore best practices across the dairy value chain, from farm to glass organizer, by Africa Agribusiness Academy.

As Nigeria seeks to strengthen its domestic dairy production and transition from reliance on imports towards greater self-sufficiency, the visit provides an important platform for South-South knowledge exchange, peer learning and technical collaboration.

The delegation also toured the Kenya Dairy Board National Dairy Regulatory Laboratory, gaining first-hand insights into Kenya’s regulatory testing and quality assurance systems.

The technical engagements, led by Ag. Director, Regulatory Services, Paul Ndungu, provided insights into the structures, systems and interventions underpinning Kenya’s dairy industry, including quality assurance, regulation, productivity and market development.

The visit follows the Kenya Dairy Board’s National Dairy Regulatory Laboratory (NDRL) concluding a five-day Quality Assurance Training for 15 Quality Assurance Officers from Githunguri Dairy Cooperative Society, held from 14–18 September 2026.

The training covered Good Laboratory Practice and Quality Management Systems, analytical methods and testing techniques, and equipment management and calibration.

The capacity-building initiative strengthens technical competence in dairy testing and quality assurance, supporting safe, high-quality milk and dairy products and enhanced regulatory compliance across the value chain.

CODARAN is the nationwide apex body and collective voice for indigenous commercial dairy producers, ranch operators, and small-, medium-, and large-scale dairy farmers. CODARAN is a non-political membership organization.

The Commercial Dairy Ranchers Association of Nigeria (CODARAN) was incorporated by five Promoters (who constitute its Board of Trustees) at the Corporate Affairs Commission, on the 24th day of January 2017 in Abuja, Nigeria.

Recently, the Commercial Dairy Ranchers Association of Nigeria (CODARAN) called for increased support and empowerment for women dairy farmers nationwide.

The association said empowering women in the dairy value chain is crucial to boosting local milk production, improving nutrition, creating jobs and reducing dependence on imported dairy products.
