Tetra Pak, Axis Communications unveil digital monitoring solution for ice cream manufacturing

Tetra Pak said the solution responds to rising consumer expectations around food quality, consistency and production transparency.

SWITZERLAND – Tetra Pak and network technology company Axis Communications have developed a new digital solution, enabling ice cream manufacturers to gain real-time visibility across every stage of the production line.

The innovation, called ‘Ice Cream Video Care,’ is the result of a six-year process monitoring collaboration between Tetra Pak and Axis. It uses network cameras as smart sensors to provide deeper operational insight and improved control across the process line.

It is built on Axis’ advanced IP camera technology, such as Q-line dome and modular F-series cameras. The solution is designed to perform reliably in low-temperature and harsh production environments, offering constant, high-resolution visibility into areas operators cannot traditionally see or safely reach.

Up to 16 cameras can be installed across each ice cream line via Axis’ video management software, Axis Camera Station, to enable safe, remote inspection without disrupting operations.

The partnership between the two companies began with camera-supported observation in juice filling, and has since expanded into broader application areas across food production.

Tetra Pak Ice Cream Video Care marks the first major expansion of camera-based process monitoring into ice cream production lines, the company said.

Katrin Andersson, managing director for Tetra Pak North Europe, commented: “Tetra Pak and Axis Communications are combining deep knowledge of food production with advanced monitoring technology, enabling manufacturers to gain greater insight into their operations. The result is improved efficiency, reduced waste and better quality control, supporting a more productive and sustainable food industry.”

Tetra Pak launches heat pump system to electrify pasteurization & cut energy to 77%

Recently, the company announced the expansion of its Factory Sustainable Solutions portfolio with its new Tetra Pak Integrated Heat Pump system for pasteurizers, designed to help food and beverage (F&B) producers reduce energy use and cut costs.

Pasteurization is a critical process for food safety and quality, but traditional systems are energy-intensive, typically relying on fossil fuels for heating and electrical chillers for cooling.

As F&B producers seek to improve efficiency and sustainability, optimising energy use in this process offers a clear path to reducing both costs and emissions through smarter heat recovery and reuse.

The new Tetra Pak Integrated Heat Pump system builds on the company’s existing pasteurization technology by introducing a high-efficiency electric heat pump that recovers and reuses heat from the pasteurization process.
