EGYPT – Danone has introduced HiPRO yoghurt to the Egyptian market, offering 18g of protein in three flavours, with 0% added sugar, 0% fat, and 0% artificial flavours.
By introducing HiPRO to Egypt, Danone is tapping into the rising trend of protein-enriched dairy, which has gained traction globally among athletes, young professionals, and wellness-focused households.
The product’s entry into the Egyptian market reflects both the company’s confidence in local consumer demand and its broader strategy to expand functional dairy offerings across emerging markets.
Danone Egypt, a subsidiary of Danone established in 2006, is headquartered in Cairo and has been a leading player in the essential dairy industry.
The company is known for offering a wide range of products that cater to various nutritional needs and preferences.
Danone’s portfolio includes popular items such as Danone Yogurt, Dango, Activia, Danette pudding, Danone MAX, Oiko Greek yogurt, Danao, and HiPro drinkable yogurt.
In 2024, the company introduced the “Gawda” project, seeking to improve the quality of milk collection through advanced cooling technology.
According to the company, the initiative is the first of its kind in Egypt and is being implemented in the Beni Suef and Gharbia governorates under Danone’s ‘Alban Baladna’ framework.
The project seeks to maintain milk’s quality and nutritional value by keeping it cool during collection, thereby reducing exposure to high temperatures that can lead to bacterial growth and contamination.
In 2023, the company announced a 70% reduction in milk losses at its Obour plant as part of its sustainability efforts.
One of Danone’s most important missions is to eliminate food waste and they have put in place measures to help achieve this goal.
The company has a Zero Food Waste initiative in which they partnered with the Egyptian Food Bank to also donate their daily surplus to those in need.
Danone works hand in hand with the government whose efforts to overcome the challenges in food security are through many national-level projects.
To achieve self-sufficiency in some food products, these projects aim to increase production in the agricultural sector in addition to livestock and poultry.
Danone Egypt has so far contributed to enriching school meals with dairy products for about 35,000 students as well as 5,000 Egyptian Food Bank’s most eligible recipients who are in orphanages and elderly homes in Cairo.
