Ann Mwangi Honoured as Woman Dairy Champion / Entrepreneur of the Year at the Africa Dairy Industry Awards 2026

KENYA – Ann Mwangi, Managing Director of Meved Dairy, has been recognised as the Woman Dairy Champion / Entrepreneur of the Year at the Africa Dairy Industry Awards 2026, held on 17th April 2026 alongside the Africa Dairy Innovation Summit.

This prestigious accolade celebrates Ann Mwangi’s exceptional leadership and entrepreneurial excellence in transforming a modest dairy venture into a fully integrated agribusiness that continues to influence Kenya’s dairy value chain.

Founded in Kirinyaga County, Meved Dairy began as a small-scale initiative in 2007, driven by a simple but critical market gap, limited access to milk within the local community.

What started with a single cow has since grown into a sophisticated dairy enterprise producing over 1,200 litres of milk daily, supported by a herd of high-grade dairy cattle and diversified farming systems.

Over the years, Ann Mwangi has strategically evolved the business beyond primary milk production into a value-added model.

Following early challenges with unstable market access and post-harvest losses, she pioneered in-house processing, enabling the production of yoghurt and fermented milk products.

This shift not only improved profitability but also positioned Meved Dairy as a resilient, market-driven enterprise.

Today, Meved Dairy operates as a “one-stop” dairy ecosystem, integrating feed production, milk processing, and farmer training.

The enterprise manufactures its own animal feeds to ensure quality control and cost efficiency, while also investing in modern milking systems and sustainable farming practices.

Additionally, the company plays a critical role in capacity building, having trained farmers and agripreneurs from Kenya and across the region, reinforcing its impact beyond commercial success.

Her leadership philosophy is rooted in innovation, self-sufficiency, and long-term sustainability. Her adoption of technologies, renewable energy solutions, and structured herd management systems has enhanced productivity while mitigating operational risks such as fluctuating feed quality and climate variability.

The Woman Dairy Champion / Entrepreneur of the Year award recognises women who are redefining agribusiness through leadership, innovation, and measurable impact.

Ann’s journey, from identifying a rural supply gap to building a thriving dairy brand, exemplifies the transformative role women continue to play in Africa’s agricultural sector.
