Danone inaugurates its OneBiome laboratory in Paris

The Danone OneBiome Lab will serve as a global hub for microbiome science, nutrition, and digital health, reinforcing Danone’s pioneering role in shaping the future of food and health.

FRANCE – Danone has announced the inauguration of its OneBiome Laboratory in Paris-Saclay, marking a major milestone in its commitment to science-based innovation and leadership in gut health research.

First launched in Singapore with a focus on early life, the Danone OneBiome Laboratory is designed to accelerate research into the gut microbiome and its impact on overall health, leveraging Danone’s century-long expertise, scientific data, clinical studies and a profound understanding of consumer needs.

Antoine de Saint-Affrique, Chief Executive Officer of Danone, said, “Science and innovation are at the heart of Danone’s mission to bring health through food to as many people as possible. The launch of the Danone OneBiome Laboratory marks a new chapter in our Renew Strategy, deepening our capabilities in microbiome science and reinforcing our leadership in science-led health innovation.”

This strategic development reinforces Danone’s leadership in gut health and digital science, while bringing cutting-edge capabilities to serve consumers and patients better.

It will also support the development of targeted nutrition solutions through advanced microbiology, AI, and data science.

The science of the gut microbiome and the understanding of the pivotal role it plays in overall health and well-being has exploded over the last decades.

Interest in gut health continues to rise, both within the scientific community and among consumers.

Yet only one in two people believe they have a healthy microbiota1), highlighting the need for continued education and innovation in this space.

We believe the future of nutrition lies in understanding and harnessing the power of biotics (prebiotics, probiotics, postbiotics and synbiotics for gut health,” added Isabelle Esser, Danone’s Chief Research & Innovation Officer.

The launch follows Danone’s recent acquisition of The Akkermansia Company, a trailblazer in microbiome-based gut health solutions.

This strategic move strengthens Danone’s specialized nutrition and biotics’ tailored to every stage of life. In parallel, Danone’s iconic brands continue to innovate with new formulations, such as Activia Fiber, Activia Proactive, and Actimel+ Triple Action.
