The milk alternative is said to be low in sugar and high in protein. It is foamable and can be served hot or cold.

SWEDEN – Sproud, a Swedish producer of pea-based milk alternatives, has announced the launch of its matcha pea milk, expanding its footprint.
The product’s ingredients include pea protein, agave syrup, rapeseed oil, matcha tea powder, green tea extract, and spirulina. It is also fortified with vitamins such as riboflavin, vitamin D, and vitamin B12.
“Matcha is having a moment: consumers are increasingly looking for more variety in drinks,” said Sara Berger, CEO of Sproud. “Providing healthy plant-based alternatives is our identity, so we are thrilled to be able to add Sproud Matcha to our range and keep our customers happy from the first thing in the morning to the last thing at night.
The launch comes as matcha continues to rise in popularity; figures suggest that the UK market was worth $61.8 million (£45.7 million) last year, and this is expected to rise to $98.3 million (£72.7 million) by 2030.
Recently, the company received B Corp Certification, verifying that the company meets rigorous social and environmental standards.
The certification was awarded by B Lab, a non-profit organization that evaluates companies based on their impact on workers, communities, and the environment.
Sproud’s product line, which is made from yellow split peas, is designed with sustainability in mind. The peas require less water than many other crops and contribute nutrients back into the soil. In addition, the products are shelf-stable, reducing the need for refrigeration and minimizing waste.
The company tracks its carbon footprint through CarbonCloud, updating its CO₂ emissions daily. The current CO₂e per kilogram of Sproud’s products ranges between 0.26 and 0.38, lower than most leading brands in the plant-based milk market.
CEO Sara Berger expressed the company’s pride in achieving this milestone, noting that the certification score of 109.4 “reinforces that we see the planet as our biggest stakeholder and our commitment to being a business that is a force for good.”
Sproud has also made strides in corporate social responsibility. According to the company, in 2023, it became the first food company in the EU to earn ISO 26000 certification, an international standard for CSR.
The company was founded in Malmö, Sweden, in 2018. It launched in the UK in 2019 and later expanded into major retailers like Sainsbury’s.
