Almarai, e& enterprise sign MoU to promote environmental sustainability

This move underscores the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and reinforces Almarai’s commitment to environmental and social responsibility.

SAUDI ARABIA – Almarai, a multinational dairy, has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with e& enterprise to strengthen collaboration in the field of environmental sustainability and adopt global best practices for reducing carbon emissions.

This move underscores the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and reinforces Almarai’s commitment to environmental and social responsibility.

Additionally, the collaboration is part of a shared ambition to strike a balance between industrial growth and environmental stewardship by leveraging cutting-edge technologies in the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

It focuses on developing a comprehensive plan that includes building an accurate greenhouse gas emissions database across all Almarai facilities — more than 100 sites, including factories, farms, distribution centres, and offices within and outside the Kingdom.

Mr. Abdullah Al-Badr, CEO of Almarai, stated: “We are proud of this strategic partnership, which marks a significant step in our journey to strengthen our leadership in environmental sustainability. We believe that achieving sustainability requires effective collaboration and investment in smart solutions. This initiative reflects our commitment to a holistic approach that balances economic growth and environmental protection for future generations.”

The program also involves setting ambitious targets based on scientifically validated standards from the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), in cooperation with all relevant stakeholders. Additionally, it aims to develop innovative solutions using the latest AI and IoT technologies to enhance industrial efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

Mr. Tareq Alangari, CEO of e& enterprise, emphasised that the collaboration reflects both parties’ commitment to turning environmental challenges into smart investment opportunities. He noted that the company will leverage its extensive expertise in IoT and AI to support Almarai in achieving its ambitious environmental goals.

Under carbon emissions, the program represents an actionable step within a three-year plan that includes conducting a detailed greenhouse gas emissions inventory, organising workshops with stakeholders, and progressing toward the adoption of science-based emissions reduction targets.

The collaboration is also expected to enhance energy efficiency, ensure compliance with environmental regulations, and reduce operational costs, strengthening Almarai’s position as a leader in implementing global sustainability best practices.

The MoU builds on Almarai’s success in the Environmental Consulting Program launched by the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul), where Almarai was selected among five national entities to benefit from technical and advisory support aimed at accelerating the transition to sustainable environmental practices.
