The state-of-the-art cheese plant was officially commissioned by Peter Chibwe Kapala, the Minister of Fisheries and Livestock, marking a major milestone in dairy production.

ZAMBIA – Zambeef Products PLC, an integrated cold chain food products and agribusiness company, has unveiled its latest cheese industry, strengthening its presence in the Zambia region.

The state-of-the-art cheese plant was officially commissioned by Peter Chibwe Kapala, the Minister of Fisheries and Livestock, marking a major milestone in dairy production.

Designed to meet both local and international standards, the facility will produce a variety of cheeses, including cheddar, mozzarella, and other spiced cheeses, catering to diverse consumer preferences across domestic and global markets.

At the core of the company’s mission is a strong commitment to sustainability and innovation. By integrating environmentally friendly practices, the plant is set to minimise its ecological footprint while ensuring high-quality cheese production.

Additionally, cutting-edge technology will be employed to enhance production efficiency and maintain superior quality, making the facility one of the most advanced in the industry.

Faith Mutuku, CEO, Zambeef Products PLC, stated that the launch of this cheese plant also represents a significant opportunity for small-scale farmers, who will benefit from direct partnerships and fair market access.

By sourcing locally produced milk, the plant will create a stable demand for raw dairy products, empowering farmers and fostering growth in the agricultural sector.

With an emphasis on quality, sustainability, and economic growth, this new cheese plant is set to become a game-changer in the industry.

The news comes as the African cheese market, which was valued at US$ 1.69 billion in 2024 is projected to reach US$ 1.08 billion by 2032, growing at a CAGR of 1.51% during the forecast period.

The African cheese market is driven by rising urbanisation, increasing disposable incomes, and growing consumer preference for Western diets. The expanding retail sector, including supermarkets and hypermarkets, has enhanced cheese accessibility, further fueling demand.

Rising demand for fast food and ready-to-eat meals is fueling market growth, with quick-service restaurants and bakeries being major consumers.

The Africa cheese market exhibits diverse growth patterns across key regions, including Egypt, Nigeria, Algeria, Morocco, and other parts of the continent.

Egypt and Algeria have well-established dairy industries, supporting both local cheese production and imports, while Nigeria and Morocco are witnessing rising cheese consumption due to urbanisation and expanding retail networks.

Additionally, the rise of lactose intolerance awareness, veganism, and plant-based diets has spurred demand for dairy-free cheese alternatives in Africa.

For instance, plant-based cheese brands are introducing vegan cheese products made from nuts and soy, catering to health-conscious consumers.
