KDB donates solar-powered chiller to launch ‘Maziwa ni School Fees’ programme

KENYA – The Kenya Dairy Board has donated a solar-powered instant chiller to the Tuiyo Dairy Cooperative today, marking the launch of the innovative Maziwa ni School Fees Programme in Tuiyo, Uasin Gishu County.

The donation, made in collaboration with Prompt, an Indian-based company specializing in dairy machinery, headlined the event officiated by the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Cooperatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, Hon. FCPA Dr. Wycliffe Oparanya.

This initiative, driven by KDB alongside the County Government of Uasin Gishu and the New Kenya Cooperative Creameries (NKCC), aims to transform lives by linking dairy farming with education.

Reported by the Kenya Dairy Board, the chiller will help farmers preserve milk quality, ensuring they can supply stable markets and generate steady income.

This income will support the programme’s core goal of converting dairy profits into school fees, keeping children in rural households in school.

The donation underscores the government’s commitment to empowering farmers through practical tools and training.

According to Hon. Oparanya, the chiller is a vital step in boosting the dairy sector.“This equipment will change how our farmers work and help secure their children’s future through education.

A report by the Kenya Dairy Board notes that the Maziwa ni School Fees Programme goes beyond providing equipment. It includes innovative training and cooperative support to improve milk production and market access via NKCC.

The approach ensures farmers can sustain their livelihoods while contributing to Kenya’s economic growth.

One local farmer expressed gratitude for the donation during the event. “With this chiller, I can store milk better and earn enough to pay school fees without stress,” he said.

With the chiller as its cornerstone, the programme is being celebrated as a model for rural empowerment.

It aims to nurture dreams and strengthen communities by turning dairy farming into a tool for social progress.

The Kenya Dairy Board and its partners see the chiller donation as a catalyst for sustainable change.

They are urging more stakeholders to support the initiative, which promises to uplift rural families across Kenya.

By equipping Tuiyo Dairy Cooperative with this technology, KDB has laid a strong foundation for a programme that blends agriculture with education, setting a new benchmark for community-focused development.
