Brookside Dairy rewards farmers with Ksh 323M in annual bonuses

KENYA – Brookside Dairy, a leading milk processor in Kenya, has demonstrated its commitment to supporting dairy farmers by disbursing a substantial total of Ksh 323 million in annual bonuses.

This generous payout, released under the company’s reward scheme, serves as a festive gift for dairy farmers across the country.

The bonuses were distributed in two installments, with Ksh 138 million released in mid-2023 and an additional Ksh 18 million recently disbursed.

The recipients of these bonuses are dairy groups and individual farmers who actively participated in the reward scheme, supplying raw milk to Brookside between June and November this year.

Emmanuel Kabaki, Brookside’s General Manager for Milk Procurement, highlighted the significance of the bonuses, emphasizing that farmers were rewarded for meeting agreed supply targets in both quantity and quality.

“The reward scheme, initiated by Brookside five years ago, aims to acknowledge the crucial role played by raw milk suppliers in the upstream phase of the dairy value chain.”

Mr. Kabaki expressed pride in the strong working relationship between Brookside and its 160,000 contracted raw milk suppliers nationwide.

The bonuses, he noted, contribute to fostering the supply of high-quality milk, enabling Brookside to tap into a larger share of high-value dairy products.

The success of the reward scheme has been evident over the years, with the payout consistently increasing as the processor’s base of contracted farmers continues to expand.

“This growth reflects the positive impact of Brookside’s initiatives in the dairy sector,” Kabaki added.

Notably, the volumes and quality of milk supplied to Brookside have witnessed continuous improvement.

This year’s intake recorded a remarkable 27% increase compared to the volumes supplied during a similar period last year.

The growth is attributed to the adoption of better dairy practices by farmers, showcasing the positive outcomes of Brookside’s efforts in promoting sustainable farming methods.

Earlier in the year, Brookside Dairy had already announced a cash bonus payout of over Ksh 142 million under the same reward scheme.

This additional payout, benefiting farmers who supplied raw milk between December 1, 2022, and May 31, 2023, further reinforces the company’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding the toil of farmers.

As Brookside’s farmer reward scheme continues to appreciate over the years, it becomes a testament to the processor’s dedication to building a resilient and thriving dairy sector in Kenya.
