Mother Dairy celebrates 50 years of nourishing the nation, unveils ambitious plans for expansion

INDIA – In a momentous celebration, Mother Dairy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), has entered its Golden Jubilee Year of serving the nation and empowering farmers.

Dr. Meenesh C Shah, Chairman of NDDB, extended his heartfelt congratulations to all stakeholders, emphasizing the crucial role played by Mother Dairy officials, concessionaires, and consumers, but most importantly, the farmers.

Dr. Shah shared the inspiring journey and milestones achieved since Mother Dairy’s inception, highlighting the potential for recalibrating operations to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability.

To commemorate this milestone, Dr. Shah inaugurated the logo of Mother Dairy’s 50 years, symbolizing the company’s enduring commitment.

The celebration included the launch of new products, ranging from ice creams and organic products to edible oil and bakery items, all aimed at providing consumers with a diverse and quality product range.

In a significant development, earlier this year, Union Road Transport & Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone for Mother Dairy’s state-of-the-art mega milk processing plant in Nagpur.

Valued at over Rs. 500 crores, this facility covers 25 acres in the Butibori Industrial Estate and has a daily processing capacity of 6 to 10 lakh litres of milk, along with various value-added dairy products.

Gadkari, an MP from Nagpur, expressed his vision for Vidarbha and Marathwada to play a pivotal role in Maharashtra’s milk production.

He acknowledged NDDB and Mother Dairy’s pivotal role in boosting milk production and providing better returns to farmers. Gadkari urged the collaboration to replicate this success in fruits, vegetables, and edible oils, leveraging brands like Safal and Dhara.

The government’s support was highlighted by Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, Maharashtra’s Minister for Revenue, Animal Husbandry & Dairy Development. He commended NDDB-Mother Dairy for transforming the dairy landscape, offering hope to farmers who were once deprived of remunerative returns.

Dr. Meenesh Shah presented the interventions and plans for dairy development in Vidarbha and Marathwada, showcasing the positive impact on farmers.

The average milk procurement in the region reached approximately 3 lakh litres per day, benefitting around 30,000 farmers across 11 districts.

Manish Bandlish, Managing Director of Mother Dairy, emphasized the organization’s robust procurement network and retail presence, highlighting the new plant’s role in fortifying the value chain in the Western region.

“The proposed Nagpur facility will be among Mother Dairy’s largest processing units, reinforcing the company’s commitment to expanding beyond Delhi NCR and focusing on Western markets.”

The foundation stone laying ceremony coincided with the inaugural day of Agrovision 2023, symbolizing a new era of dairy development in Vidarbha and Marathwada.
