Lactalis South Africa introduces new products

The brand combines dairy nutrition with flavour-led product development.

SOUTH AFRICA – Lactalis South Africa has introduced the new Steri Stumpie Iced Coffee range, with Hazelnut and Caramel flavours, an addition to the popular Original Coffee and Mocha flavours.

The company stated that the latest innovation highlights the importance of staying relevant in a changing market while continuing to deliver the quality and flavour consumers want.

Launched in 1970, the brand has become a well-known name in South Africa’s flavoured milk market, recognised for its packaging, distinctive bottle design and flavor.

Steri Stumpie offers a range of flavoured milk products, including chocolate, strawberry, cream soda, bubblegum, banana, vanilla, cookies and cream, and toffee caramel.

Its portfolio also includes Steri Stumpie Lite, a no-added-sugar range, as well as iced coffee products in flavours such as coffee mocha and hazelnut.

Additionally, the company recently introduced Parmalat Protein+ Range to its portfolio, available in yogurt tubs, flavored milk and convenient on-the-go pouches.

Its protein content ranges from 5g to 20g per serving, catering to diverse consumer needs: from casual snackers seeking a nutritional boost to fitness‑oriented buyers looking for sustained energy.

The company is part of the Lactalis Group – the world’s largest dairy company, which was founded in 1933 by André Besnier in Laval in the west of France. The Lactalis Group has 250 production sites with more than 85000 employees in 94 countries.

Lactalis Group acquired a majority share in Parmalat SpA in 2011, and in 2020, the company officially rebranded and became Lactalis South Africa, which is a change in name only.

Lactalis South Africa processes dairy products under the brand name Parmalat, Melrose, Président, SteriStumpie, Bonnita and PureJoy.

The new products come after the company inaugurated a US$7.7 million new evaporator dryer power facility at its cheese manufacturing plant in Bonnievale , Western Cape Town.

Lactalis South Africa’s Bonnievale factory is one of the biggest cheese factories on the African continent and currently employs 800 employees.

The evaporator dryer plant will perform its purpose of efficiently removing water from milk to produce a dry powder with an improved shelf-life without refrigeration.
