At Land O’Lakes’ Carlisle facility, grant funding will support the investment in a new butter churn, designed to improve capacity and operational efficiency.

USA – Land O’Lakes has announced that a project at its Carlisle, Pa., facility and several member-owners were selected as recipients of Pennsylvania’s Agricultural Innovation Grant Program.
The program is a state grant initiative designed to help agricultural businesses adopt new technology, improve efficiency, protect natural resources, and support long-term growth.
The Shapiro-Davis Administration announced US$9.7 million in grants supporting 97 projects across the state, leveraging US$4.8 million in matching investments from farms and agricultural businesses.
The program’s second round builds on Pennsylvania’s continued investment in agricultural innovation and competitiveness.
“This investment helps to strengthen the future of dairy in Pennsylvania,” said Heather Anfang, executive vice president and president of dairy foods at Land O’Lakes Inc.
“Our Carlisle facility plays a vital role in balancing and processing milk for Pennsylvania dairy farmers, and modernizing this operation helps create a more efficient, resilient and competitive dairy supply chain for our member-owners, employees, customers and communities.”
The Carlisle facility processes approximately about 4.5 million pounds per day and is one of the largest milk receiving facilities in Pennsylvania.
The facility employs approximately 250 people and operates around the clock, balancing milk for many Pennsylvania dairy farmers and supporting a dependable market for milk produced in the region.
Land O’Lakes has nearly 700 dairy member-owners in Pennsylvania, producing 2.7 billion pounds of milk annually. Investments like this support local dairy farmers, local processing and a stronger future for Pennsylvania’s dairy industry.
With 2025 annual sales of US$16 billion, Land O’Lakes is one of the nation’s largest member-owned cooperatives and one of America’s premier agribusiness and food companies.
Land O’Lakes operates some of the most respected brands in agribusiness and food production, including Land O’Lakes Dairy Foods, Animal Nutrition and WinField United. The company does business in all 50 states and more than 60 countries. Its corporate headquarters are located in Arden Hills, Minn.
Recently, it announced a strategic investment in its Tulare, California, dairy processing facility to expand capabilities into high-value dairy protein production, positioning the cooperative to meet rapidly growing global demand for protein-rich nutrition, while also creating new opportunities for its farmer-owners.
The investment will enable production of ultra-filtered milk; unlocking greater value from member milk, providing growth opportunities for farmer-owners and strengthening Land O’Lakes’ ability to compete in a changing food landscape increasingly centered on protein.
