Margaret Kibogy Honoured as Most Influential Dairy Person at the Africa Dairy Industry Awards 2026

KENYA – Margaret Rugut Kibogy, Former Managing Director of the Kenya Dairy Board (KDB), has been recognised as the Most Influential Dairy Person in the Africa Dairy Industry Awards 2026.

The accolade was presented during a ceremony co-located with the Africa Dairy Innovation Summit on 17 April 2026.

The recognition of Margaret Kibogy as the Most Influential Dairy Person at the Africa Dairy Industry Awards 2026 highlights her leadership in steering regulatory reforms, institutional strengthening, and sector-wide transformation at the Kenya Dairy Board over a nine-year tenure from May 2016 to May 2025.

Kibogy was appointed Managing Director of the Kenya Dairy Board in May 2016 and served until her farewell in May 2025. She holds a degree in Agricultural Economics and brought extensive experience in the dairy industry to the role.

During her tenure, she oversaw the implementation of key reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency, quality standards, and sustainability in Kenya’s dairy sector.

Achievements during her leadership include advancing the Kenya Dairy Industry Transformation Roadmap, which focused on modern technologies, climate-resilient strategies, competitive production, processing, and marketing of quality milk.

She led industry stakeholders in processor visits and collaborative efforts to align the sector with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

Kibogy spearheaded institutional strengthening at the KDB, including oversight of the construction of the Kenya Dairy Board’s new headquarters.

She positioned Kenya as an active participant in global dairy platforms, including the International Dairy Federation (IDF) and the Global Dairy Sustainability Forum.

Under her guidance, the Board contributed to efforts targeting national milk production growth toward 12 billion litres annually by 2030.

The Kenya Dairy Board, established under the Dairy Industry Act, Cap. 336, plays a central regulatory role in licensing, quality assurance, market development, and supporting the dairy value chain.

During Kibogy’s tenure, the sector contributed approximately 4% to Kenya’s national GDP, with ongoing work on cost-of-milk-production reports, policy advocacy, and formalisation of milk marketing channels.

Her leadership also included navigating challenges such as feed costs, climate impacts, and market dynamics while promoting collaboration among government, processors, cooperatives, and farmers.

Prior to her departure, she was recognised nationally, including being named among the top 25 women driving growth in Kenya’s agricultural sector by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Cooperatives.

This award acknowledges Kibogy’s individual contributions to regulatory leadership, strategic roadmap implementation, institutional development, and broader advancement of Kenya’s dairy value chain during a critical period of growth and formalisation.
