Actus Nutrition acquires Foremost Farms’ whey protein facility in US$10M deal

The Sparta-based facility will continue its operations under Actus Nutrition’s management.

USA – Actus Nutrition, a leading manufacturer of nutritional ingredients, has finalized a US$10 million acquisition of a 99,000-square-foot whey protein processing facility from Foremost Farms USA, located in Sparta, Wisconsin.

The deal strengthens Actus Nutrition’s position in the booming whey protein market while fostering a long-term partnership with Foremost Farms to support growth for both organizations.

The Sparta facility, which specializes in producing whey protein concentrates, isolates, and hydrolysates, will continue its operations under Actus Nutrition’s management.

The company plans to leverage the facility’s capacity to meet rising global demand for high-protein ingredients used in health, wellness, and performance nutrition products.

Actus Nutrition, a portfolio company of Butterfly Equity, emphasized the strategic importance of this acquisition in expanding its manufacturing footprint across North America, where it already operates facilities in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska, Illinois, Idaho, and California.

“This acquisition allows us to better serve our customers by increasing our production capacity for whey protein, a critical ingredient in the nutrition industry,” said a spokesperson for Actus Nutrition.

The company highlighted that the facility’s infrastructure and skilled workforce were key factors in the decision to acquire the site, ensuring a seamless transition and continued production quality.

Foremost Farms, a dairy cooperative known for its cheese and dairy ingredient production, will maintain a close relationship with Actus Nutrition through an exclusive, network-wide partnership.

This collaboration will focus on producing whey protein across their combined facilities, optimizing resources and driving innovation.

“We are excited to extend our longstanding relationship with Actus Nutrition in this new direction,” said Declan Roche, Chief Commercial Officer at Foremost Farms.

The partnership is expected to enhance efficiency and create value for Foremost Farms’ patron farmers, who supply the raw materials for whey production.

According to industry analysts, the acquisition aligns with growing consumer demand for protein-rich products, driven by trends in fitness, healthy aging, and functional foods.

The global whey protein market is projected to grow significantly, and Actus Nutrition’s investment positions it to capture a larger share of this expanding sector.

The deal also allows Foremost Farms to sharpen its focus on core dairy operations while benefiting from the partnership’s growth opportunities.

The acquisition includes retaining the Sparta facility’s existing workforce, ensuring job stability in the region.

Actus Nutrition plans to invest in facility upgrades to enhance production capabilities, further solidifying its role as a key player in the nutritional ingredients industry.
